What (or who) am I?

I am a contradiction.

To be less esoteric: I am an eighteen-year-old California native, and I haven't lived there since I was six months old. I worship at the feet of William Shatner, Susanna Thompson, Meryl Streep, and Deborah Kerr. I think Hugh Jackman is sex on legs and I recently had a dream about Laura Roslin as if she were a real person. I did theatre in high school, and was glared at for a good month after I informed my director that I had no intention of throwing myself into the cutthroat world of showbiz and instead intended to make a go of it as a large animal vet. I love horses and can stay on just about anything you care to saddle (although actually riding well is quite a different story.) This applies to Western and English.

I am a fairly antisocial creature, with the exception of the internet. I learned to read when I was four and have been doing so with relish ever since, devouring everything from Bill Bryson to David Weber to histories of England to Russian Folktales to historical fiction to David Eddings to Nora Roberts and Lynn Kurland to Jane Austen to my mother's books on medicine and childbirth. I own a copy of Merck's Veterinary Manual, I read my school textbooks for fun as a child (that, by the way, was how I taught myself integers - a full six months before they were taught in class) and I do, in fact, read the dictionary (although I've usually exhausted all other material before I come to that.) This has given me a massive vocabulary, which I use unconsciously. I am then requested by my friends to speak "plain English", never mind that it would be plain to them if they would broaden their literary horizons.

I did not watch much television as a girl (with the exception of Animal Planet), but recently I have begun to watch more, and I have developed a truly alarming appetite for crime shows. Law & Order (all of them), NCIS, The Closer, Castle... I'll probably watch it. The same goes for Sci-fi. I'm a second-gen Trekkie who'd barely seen Star Trek before the 2009 movie. I have subsequently developed a massive crush on William Shatner and a truly alarming lust for Kirk (no matter the universe.) I also love House and 24, partly because Kiefer Sutherland is OMGSEXY and partly because Annie Wersching is absolutely adorable and I cannot understand why Jack Bauer cannot figure this out. (In case you didn't catch the implication, yes, I am bisexual. I highly suggest you get over it, as homophobia is one of my biggest peeves.)

I love country music. No one will change my mind on this. However, I will listen to anything except rap, which I consider to be musical rape.

I do, in fact, write fanfiction. It is hosted at www.fanfiction.net, under the username EquestrienneDreams. Said fanfiction is of slightly-better-than-average quality and spread over many different fandoms, including Tamora Pierce, Harry Potter, and NCIS.

I have every intention of studying veterinary medicine at the University of Glasgow and subsequently taking up residence near Inverness. This is because I have an unholy fascination with the UK. This is also because they provide much better for vegetarians across the Pond, and they also have a working transportation system that can actually take you where you wish to go, unlike the American Midwest, which requires a car and an ocean of gas just to get anywhere useful. In terms of politics, I think George W. Bush is incompetent, I think Obama promises too much without the clout to deliver (no matter how good some of his ideas are), and I think that Hillary Clinton could be an incredible President if we could just get over ourselves and elect her.

I have a somewhat dark and very British sense of humor and have been described as "witty". I do not swear often, and when I do, it is a Very Bad Sign. I cry easily, but shut down into an emotionless robot when Very Bad Things happen. I am an emotional basket case who is calm and cool in the face of her friends' problems. I'm tenderhearted and can be callous and cruel when I am pissed off. I refer you to my previous statement: I am a contradiction. Ah, well, at least I'm an intelligent one.
